Including Black and Minority Ethnic people
There is a history of exclusion by the Church of England of those from different ethnic backgrounds. As we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the ending of the slave trade, we recognise how far there is still to go until black and ethnic minority people - who in large parts of the church make up the majority of congregations - are fully involved at all levels.
General Synod elections last time resulted in a reduction in the number of black and minority ethnic delegates. Not good. We are working closely with the Association of Black Clergy to try to increase good representation and overcome historic injustice. Internationally, our links with other Provinces and individuals around the world are attempts to build inclusion throughout the church.
