Chicago Consultation
Clare reported that Colin, Philip Chester and she had just returned from a meeting of the Chicago Consultation. CC has offered 15,000 dollars to cover communications, 5000 dollars less than the 20,000 we had anticipated. Cynthia and Katie doubted that this would be sufficient to cover all the communications needs, they will discuss with John Clinton Bradley.
Katie and Cynthia have been investigating copying options in Canterbury for the daily newsletter ; hope to have it ready each day to hand out to bishops after their Eucharist, before breakfast. First edition to be A3 in colour, subsequent editions to be two sided A4 black and white.
Groups need to provide 2-3 people to take the lead on communications for their group. They will require Press Credentials - to be applied for NOW, form on website.
Katie will compile a list of possible story ideas as soon as she is back home, for groups to choose and write an article in preparation for the newsletter. Gene Robinson will have a comment in the newsletter each day. So that we have a better idea of where people really are.
Clare reported that the bishops in CC suggested that when we talk with bishops and others at Lambeth, we listen carefully to their concerns so that we have a better idea of where people really are. Sheets will be available to record notes of conversations. Brenda advised that there are implications for keeping records of people's opinions under Data Protection legislation.
We need to identify someone to coordinate hospitality and catering. Would be good to have a team to prepare a meal for volunteers in the evening. We will need a good coffee maker in the Comms Centre.
There will be a communion service each day for visitors and staff at the Franciscan Centre at 10.00 - we could join with that rather than have a separate Morning Prayer. Agreed to meet at 5pm for prayers, followed by debrief and food until 7pm. Would be good to use St Stephen's Church for prayers and debrief if available.
Eucharists. The CA/Integrity Eucharist will be Sunday afternoon 20th, Inclusive Church Eucharist and party will be Sat evening 26th. Franciscan Centre may be available for the I/C Eucharist. The US bishops thought they could bring 50 bishops to the CA Eucharist, so we will need to encourage UK bishops to attend in a colourful array.
Gene Robinson will be present in Canterbury for some of the time, he has events organised elsewhere. CA is considering arranging a book launch for him in the north.
Jeremy recommended a DVD called Save Me about exgay ministry; it's not yet available in the UK, but he may be able to get a copy for this event. Agreed to book a room in anticipation that he can get it.
Logo
After extensive discussion about the designs presented by Annette, we agreed to refer two designs back to the designer for further work. When these have been reworked they will be circulated for decision, but time is of the essence.
Groups
Savi reported that LGCM hope to send copies of Rebuilding Communion to all bishops; 2 Colin reported that CA is holding the Sunday Eucharist, hope to have two fringe events, involved with Communications Centre, and have joint stalls with integrity.
Integrity intend to showVoices of Witness, and stage a drama called Seven Passages, the interface between faith and sexuality
Mary reported that MCU were hosting a meeting with Gene Robinson on the second Wednesday
Brenda reported that the PCN Lambeth book is progressing well, groups still need to send in their contribution for the directory without delay. TheUS groups had not been invited to contribute, Brenda to inform them.
Jeremy is at the editing stage of his book . he will have to self publish in view of the short time scale, any advice would be welcome.
Inclusive Church are holding the Eucharist on Saturday and the meeting with Richard Burridge and Nomfundo.
Next meeting: 19 May
Future meetings : 16 June, 7 July, 22 September
